Little League International requires that all individuals wishing to volunteer complete an official Little League® Volunteer Application form, and provide it, together with a copy of your valid driver’s license, to Barrington Little League for review and approval. The volunteer registration and approval process, including a background check, must be completed annually.
Beginning in 2019, all completed Little League® Volunteer Application forms must be submitted electronically, by uploading to your pending registration on the Barrington Little League website. The forms can be filled in online and electronically signed and saved. A copy of your valid driver’s license, scanned in PDF or photographic form, must also be uploaded to your pending registration.
Once your completed registration materials are reviewed, and you have also completed the mandatory online background check, your registration will be processed. Unless and until approved by Barrington Little League, no individual may participate in any activities (on-field practices, games, etc.) involving players.
Volunteer/Manager/Coach appointment procedure is governed by Little League International:
All volunteer, managerial and coaching positions are annual. Each must be appointed and approved annually to continue to serve. No manager, coach, or volunteer has any tenure whatsoever, regardless of the years of service. With a completed and passed background check, the League President may appoint managers, coaches, and volunteers at his/her discretion. Each manager, coach and volunteer must be appointed by League President and approved by the Board of Directors. League President first makes appointments, which are provided to Board of Directors for review. If League President does not appoint, Board will not review. Board is not required to approve each appointment made. No person can manage, coach or volunteer without the League President appointing and the Board approving that appointment.
It is the policy of Little League International that if an individual is not re-appointed or re-approved as a manager, coach, or volunteer for the coming season, the League President and/or Board of Directors shall not give a reason to such person. The same procedure applies for new, first-time applicants.
Little League requires managers and coaches to consistently present a professional image, which includes appearance and behavior, during all league activities. The Code of Conduct calls for league officials to display enthusiasm, respect, honesty and fair play. Managers and coaches must follow all league game rules, encourage appropriate behavior by players and fans, maintain a safe game environment and consider the physical and emotional well-being of players above all else. Managers and coaches agree not to use tobacco, drugs or alcohol while involved in league activities. During All-Star and other interleague play, managers and coaches must remember that they represent Barrington Little League and the wider Barrington community, and be courteous guests, treating other leagues, their rules, officials, managers, coaches, players, fields and facilities with the same degree of respect as required of Barrington Little League rules, officials, managers, coaches, players, fields and facilities during in-town events between Barrington teams.
Managers and coaches are expected to familiarize themselves with and follow the Barrington Little League Code of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures outlined on this website, at the annual mandatory Coaching Clinic, the Little League Rulebook, and through other Barrington Little League and Little League International communications. The Code of Conduct is not an all-inclusive laundry list of all activities that violate the rules of Barrington Little League and Little League International, and the Board reserves the right to take appropriate action whenever necessary to ensure safety and protect the integrity and reputation of the League and its rules, procedures and principles.
